Maui and the giant Ika

Long long ago before Aotearoa there was a man called Maui.
Maui asked his brothers if he can go fishing with them.
His brothers all said, “No!”
That night Maui made a plan and made a  fishing line.
While he is doing that he chants a karakia.
He then gets the jaw bone of his grandmother….

Early that morning, Maui hides in his brothers waka unseen.
When the brothers are far out at Moana
Maui jumps out and surprises his brothers.
The brothers then fish and while they are fishing Maui chants
a Karakia and the brothers pull up heaps of Ika.

Maui starts fishing with the jaw bone of his grandmother, and calls
his karakia. Maui suddenly gets a great big; giant bite at the end of the string.
With great will he pulls up a giant stingray and his brothers all
start arguing about what piece they want. They cut pieces out
of the stingray. They stingray now lies as the North Island of Aotearoa.

THE END

When my group did our play one thing we did well was
bringing things for costumes. As a team the first part of
each session the boys started off yelling and not focused.
But by 10 minutes of each practise time, we were into the practise.
I think we ended up working well together in the end.
Our play went well when we performed but I think the
play needed more acting and less talking.
Everyone in our team participated by have
lines and acting in the play.
Everybody contributed by bringing in at least one thing.
We all also contributed by giving ideas to the play.
One thing I would like to improve is have more acting,
and everybody starting to practise as soon as we have been
let to go to practise!
