Summer Learning Journey Teaser Week

On the 9th-10th of December 2019 the girls from Room 8 went on a overnight hike in the St James Hike. We went to the Cannibal Gorge hut and dropped off our bags and then we walked to Ada Pass Hut and back.
We all met at school at 8am. We then had to weigh our bags. They were not supposed to be over 12 kgs. Luckily no ones was. We then left school in two different cars. In Cathy's car was Rebekah, Mackenzie, Milan, Brighid, Aimee and me. In Ms Kemps car was the other four girls, Sasha, Grace, Hannah and Jennae. There were 10 girls and 2 adults in total.
We then drove to Reefton and got our hut tickets. I already had a hut ticket so I didn't need to get one. We then drove all the way to the St James Car park and we get started. About 2 minutes into the walk there was a place where we had to fill to an intentions book.
After walking for about 3-4 hours we arrived at Cannibal Gorge hut. Rebekah, Grace and I went all the way underwater in the river. It was freezing! We then dropped out packs and Mackenzie, Aimee, Brighid and Cathy. The rest of us tramped the 7 km to and from Ada pass hut. We had to take water and snacks. Most of us filled up our drink bottles at little streams and the water tasted delicious.
When we got back it was pretty much time for dinner. Me and Sasha were working together for our meals. For our dinner we had dehy meals. I had Teriyaki Beef and Saha had Sweet and Sour Lamb. They both tasted pretty good. For dessert me and Sasha had Campfire Cones. They had melted chocolate and marshmallows in them and they were delicious.
After dinner we played a few games. The first game we played was trying to hit a target with a Shanghai/Slingshot. Non of us girls got the target but some of us were pretty close. The second game we played was called Flash. It was a card game using Skittles and Playing Cards. After that game we told stories too each other. We probably did that for almost an hour.
When we had almost finished all the stories, Cathy heard squeaking. Ms Kemp went down to check it out and it turns out there were a few mice sneaking around in the cabin. We ended up putting all of our packs above the ground because the mice were starting to get into them. Luckily nobody minded mice.
In the night I did not sleep very much because it was so hot because we had the fire going. In the morning me and Sasha made pancakes. They worked worked very well, and filled us. Pretty much straight after breakfast we left the hut. The tramp back was pretty easy, but we had a few injuries.
When we got back to the carpark we signed the intentions book. We then drove to Reefton where we got shouted ice creams from Ms Kemp. They tasted so good after our tramp.
I really enjoyed out tramp that we did and I think that we will all remember doing it.
